PHILIPS Gold clobbered winless Meralco, 25-12, 26-24, 25-19, on Saturday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
The Lady Slammers bounced back from a four-set loss to Foton on Thursday, with American import Alexis Olgard scoring 16 and Myla Pablo coming up with 13 to power the squad to its fifth loss in seven matches.
Former University of California Los Angeles spiker Bojana Todorovic scored nine points, her lowest output since the start of the conference, but Lady Slammers mentor Francis Vicente sees a positive effect.
“Mas maganda nga ’yun eh, mas marami ’yung nako-contribute ng iba kesa kay Bo, ibig sabihin ’yung local saka ‘yung middle hitter nagko-contrbute,” said the veteran coach.
Fil-American setter Lindsay Dowd registered 25 of the team’s 29 excellent sets.
“Sigurado ‘yun mataas ang stats ng setter that means nagagawa na niya ‘yung pinagagawa sa kanya which is magdistribute ng bola and that’s a good thing nakaabot ka ng 25, before 14 (excellent sets) pag nag-25 ka mataas ang setting percentage mo tatlong sets lang ’yun.”
American outside hitter Liis Kullerkan made 11 points for Meralco, which remained winless in seven matches and has bowed out of contention.
