IMUS CITY -- Myla Pablo scored 31 points and delivered when it mattered most as she led Philips Gold in a thrilling five-sets win over Foton, 25-20, 25-20, 15-25, 17-25, 15-11, to bag third place in the 2015 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Monday.
In a match which had all the trimmings of a championship, the Lady Slammers fought back from an 11-9 deficit in the fifth and deciding set to clinch the win in dramatic fashion before an animated crowd at the Imus Sports Complex here.
Fresh from her campaign with the Philippine team in the Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship, Pablo spearheaded the Lady Slammers’ attack and was responsible for scoring on a drop shot that put them at match point, 14-11.
Philips Gold then won a joust at the net at match point to clinch the win.
Pablo scored all her points on attack.
The Lady Slammers were actually on the verge of a straight sets win, but the Lady Tornadoes, behind the University of the Philippines pair of Nicole Tiamzon and Angeli Araneta, Patty Orendain, and Pam Lastimosa fought back mightily and forced a fifth and deciding set.
Foton was already up 11-9 when Philips Gold launched its mighty comeback.
Michelle Gumabao scored 20 points to help Pablo on the offensive end.
Araneta and Lastimosa had 15 points each, while Orendain and Tiamzon had 14 and 13 points each for the Lady Tornadoes.
