AFTER winning multiple championships in her volleyball career, Michele Gumabao is chasing a different title.
The former La Salle star is stepping out of her comfort zone to join the Binibining Pilipinas 2018 pageant, her former team in the Philippine Super Liga, Cocolife, said in a statement on Tuesday.
"It is with a heavy heart that Michele Gumabao will no longer be part of this team. Michele has been a tremendous captain, leading our new but resilient team to a couple of 5th place finishes and a semi-final berth,” said Cocolife team manager Joshua Ylaya in the statement.
As early as November last year, they already knew Gumabao’s plan for 2018 and stressed that they tried their best to keep the former La Salle skipper, who won three championships in her UAAP career.
But Cocolife officials said they respect and support her decision.
“Our journey with her has been nothing short of amazing. However, it has come to a point where the goals of the club and Ms. Gumabao are no longer aligned,” said Ylaya.
“We have tried our best to find a compromise with what she wants and what the club needs. We at UVC-Cocolife will continue to support her in her future endeavors as she tries to reach her dreams,” he added.
SPIN.ph tried to reach Gumabao but as of posting time she has not yet replied.
