VICTORIA Sports-University of Santo Tomas standout Mary Dominique Pacres was in high spirits despite losing to her college coach Kungfu Reyes' Cocolife team, 19-25, 25-16, 17-25, 20-25, in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.
It was the Tigresses’ debut in the PSL and coincidentally against Reyes, who’s also their head coach in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
Pacres felt that it was their time to prove to everyone, especially to Reyes, that although the guest team Tigresses won't go down without a fight.
“Nakaka-inspired po, nakaka-motivate at nakaka-boost ng morale na kalaban namin si coach kaya dapat ipakita namin sa kanya na lumalaban din kami na kaya din namin silang talunin,” said Pacres.
“Sobrang saya na kasi nga hindi ko inexpect na nanalo pa kami ng isang set tapos dikit pa 'yung laban. (Masaya kasi) kaya din namin, na kahit ganito lang kami (collegiate team) kaya namin lumaban sa club teams. Nakakataas ng confidence,” she added.
The third-year UST spiker is hoping that their stint in the PSL will be a big boost for their campaign in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament, which starts late January or early February next year.
“Sobrang sarap po kasi isang malaking experience po ito for the incoming UAAP, madadala namin ang experience na ito at mga learnings
Victoria Sports-UST will face powerhouse Petron on Thursday but Pacres is up for the challenge.
“Ganoon pa rin, mas malaking labanan ‘yun. Mas tatatagan pa namin ang loob namin na iha-high pa namin ang confidence namin,” she said.
