STA. Lucia fought back from two sets down to defeat Cocolife, 23-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-23, 15-7, on Tuesday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan.
Ukranian import Bohdana Anisova led the way with 35 points, from 29 kills, two blocks and four service aces, along with 11 excellent receptions for the Lady Realtors.
Meanwhile, Canadian reinforcement Marissa Field, who missed two games due to a knee injury, returned to help Sta. Lucia score only its second win in seven outings.
“Malaki (ang epekto na nakabalik si Field), mahirap maglaro na dalawa lang ang import mo and tatlo sa kalaban, malaking disadvantage natin,” said SLR coach Jerry Yee.
“Malaki ang na-contribute niya pero nag-step up din ang mga locals. Nagpalit tayo ng locals and naayos natin ng kaunti,” he added.
The Lady Realtors extended the match after a gritty third set win and sustained the momentum until the fourth set led by Anisova, who scored two crosscourt hits to drag the Asset Managers to a decider.
From a close 7-6 contest in the fifth set, the Lady Realtors cruised to an 8-1 run, including six straight points, to finish the match.
Fil-American Mar-Jana Philips scored 13 points for Sta. Lucia, while veteran setter Djanel Cheng registered 31 of the team’s 36 excellent sets in a match that took two hours and 15 minutes to finish.
American imports Shar Latai Manu-Olevao and Taylor Milton each had 30 and 13 markers, while Nene Bautista also had 13 points for Cocolife, which dropped to 3-4.
