AFTER a three-year lay-off, Marge Tejada has returned to competitive volleyball after signing up with Cocolife in the Philippine Super Liga.
She's grateful for the opportunity to return to the game she loves.
The 21-year-old Tejada has made a comeback in the PSL after her stint with Ateneo was plagued by health issues that forced her to miss her final three seasons in the UAAP.
After a dislocated elbow that forced her to miss her third year with Ateneo, Tejada took a leave from the team when she was diagnosed with a heart condition which sidelined her for Season 78.
"Na-diagnose ako ng heart condition. I really had to stop," said Tejada.
Tejada recovered from the heart condition where she was cleared to return last October. However, she was not able to play in Season 79 for the Lady Eagles.
"On my fifth year, kumpleto na rin 'yung team kaya nag-student manager na lang ako for the team," said Tejada.
Despite missing the cut again, Tejada didn't stop playing volleyball, determined to keep herself in shape following a long hiatus.
"I wasn't allowed to do strenuous work kasi I was sick. When I got cleared around October last year, nag-start na ako mag-conditioning kasi hinahanap ng katawan ko 'yung activities. Siyempre, ako rin, ayoko tumigil. I really worked out myself," said Tejada.
Fortunately for Tejada, an offer to play for Cocolife in the PSL came and she immediately grabbed it.
"It's an opportunity. I've been out for the longest time so why not grab it," said Tejada on her decision to return to competitive volleyball.
Tejada joined a Cocolife squad that has former Ateneo teammate and libero Denden Lazaro and former La Salle spiker Michele Gumabao for the All-Filipino Conference. The Asset Managers currently have a 1-3 win-loss record but sees improvement in the coming matches.
The former Lady Eagle is confident things will turn for the better for the team.
"If you would compare our previous performances, nakikita na nagje-jell na at gumagalaw na 'yung mga tao. Importante 'yung jelling sa team. Kailan lang kami naging solid na na-buo. I think nakikita na 'yung jelling, communication sa loob as one team. Hindi na 'yung kanya kanya. We are getting there," said Tejada.
