AIZA Maizo-Pontillas and Bernadeth Pons unloaded 14 points each as Petron swept Generika-Ayala, 25-21, 25-14, 25-20, for its second straight victory in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Invitationals on Monday at the Arena in San Juan City.
After leading the way in their rousing three-set win over F2 Logistics last Saturday, Pontillas continued to flash vintage form nailing 14 kills out of 33 attempts and adding 15 digs and five excellent receptions.
Pons, who saw limited action in their conference opener, delivered 12 attacks and a pair of blocks to go with 17 digs as the Blaze Spikers moved to the top of Pool B with a 2-0 (win-loss) record.
Ces Molina, Remy Palma and Sisi Rondina contributed six points each while setter Angel Legacion ably distributed the offensive wealth with 18 excellent sets as Petron dominated Generika-Ayala in attacking, 48-32.
“Yung mga attacks nila kailangan maging ready both blockers and yung floor defense namin at siyempre service pa rin, kahit saang team maging consistent ka jan magiging maganda yung result ng game,” said Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos.
“Kailangan improve pa ng improve and ma-maintain talaga namin yung ganung klase ng laro. Siyempre tomorrow game ulit so kailangan namin magrecover,” he added.
Fiola Ceballos led the Lifesavers with 16 points while Mean Mendrez added 10 markers, but they couldn't save the squad from falling to 1-1, good for a tie with F2 Logistics in Pool B.
Petron and Generika-Ayala will return to action in less than 24 hours as the Blaze Spikers battle Marinerang Pilipina (0-2) at 6 p.m., while the Lifesavers take on F2 Logistics (1-1) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
