LIPA, Batangas — Foton dealt Army its third straight loss, 18-25, 25-15, 25-17, 23-25, 15-9, on Thursday in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at La Salle in Lipa, Batangas.
Jaja Santiago and Sisi Rondina teammed had 19 points apiece for the Tornadoes. Santiago had 11 spikes, seven of the team's 10 blocks, and one service ace, while Rondina had 17 kills.
Skipper Angeli Araneta had 13 points, while Maika Ortiz added 10 markers for the Tornadoes in the round-robin featuring the semis-bound teams.
"They played the way we expected them to play kasi ang tinitignan namin ngayon is how they’re going to respond doon sa mga pinaghandaan namin sa training kasi it’s more on the psychological side and mental toughness. Naperform naman nila ngayon with a five set win namin," said Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon.
Rachel Anne Daquis was taken out in the first set with pain in her left heel, but De Leon noted they still struggled.
"Una ayaw namin na may ma-eliminate na tao para lang manalo kasi nasa game plan namin Rachel, ready kami sa kanya and ‘yung position niya ‘yung pinagaralan namin," said De Leon.
"Without her nga five sets pa rin kami. So Marami pa on our side na problema so sa kanila hindi na namin tinitignan ‘yun."
Jovelyn Gonzaga had 22 points from 15 kills and seven blocks, seven digs and 22 excellent receptions for RC Cola Army.
The Lady Troopers absorbed their third consecutive loss.
