LA Salle setter Kim Fajardo stood out in the eyes of Korean coach Kim Keung Un after the five-day Philippine Super Liga setting seminar at Arellano gym.
The short training course, which was also facilitated by veteran setter Tina Salak, was attended by some of the country's notable playmakers from high school, college and club teams, including Rhea Dimaculangan of Foton, Kyle Negrito of Far Eastern University and Alex Cabanos of University of Santo Tomas.
But for the renowned Korean coach, no one impressed more than the incoming fifth year player from Taft.
"(For me it's) Kim," said the veteran mentor, who has handled the Korean men's national team for five years now.
Although he was also impressed by Negrito and Dimaculangan's work ethic and playmaking skills, Kim said what sets Fajardo apart is her ability to learn quickly and read the situation on the floor.
The only drawback is Fajardo's lack of size, he added.
"Kim is good, she's good but not tall. She's just 170 cm, a setter [should be at least] 175 to 176 cm so that she can block," he added. "But her footwork is fast, she's also a fast learner and her game reading and technique is good."
Kim was not the only topnotch foreign coach that took note of Fajardo as Thai mentor Chamnan Dokmai of Est Cola also shared the same observation about the La Salle setter when they played the Lady Spikers last April.
