FOTON registered its first back-to-back wins in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix, downing Cignal, 25-17, 25-19, 25-18, on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
Fil-Jamaican Kayla Tiangco-Williams and American reinforcements Lindsay Stalzer and Katie Messing each had 13 points for the Tornadoes, who scored a huge follow-up to their straight-sets victory over RC Cola two days ago.
Jaja Santiago chipped in with eight points for Foton, which started the tournament with a win but lost three straight. The Tornadoes now hold a 3-3 win-loss slate.
“They are already playing as a team because that’s what we lack in our previous games,” said Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon.
“Wala naman akong duda sa skills nila kasi I know they’re good it only depends on the execution.”
Cignal import Ariel Usher had 23 points, with 22 spikes, but fellow American reinforcement Amanda Anderson only had seven markers, while four other players combined for 10 points.
The HD Spikers absorbed their second straight loss for a 5-2 mark.
“Ang baba ng laro ng players ko,” said HD Spikers coach Sammy Acaylar.
