JOVELYN Gonzaga bared her willingness to take on a new role as she played libero for PSL Manila in their tune up game against the University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday.
The RC Army opposite hitter stepped up after both PSL Manila liberos Jen Reyes and Yuri Fukuda were unable to participate due to sickness and prior commitments.
"Kasi wala kaming (libero) so last option, nagtanong si coach (Shun Takashi), then nag-volunteer ako. Ang lakas ng loob ko ano?" Gonzaga joked.
"Pero kasi gusto ko din i-try para maiba sa akin," she added.
All's well in Gonzaga's temporary debut as libero with the PSL squad taking the tune-up over UST in straight sets.
Gonzaga noted Shun's words of encouragement also helped in her transition to her libero role.
"Okay naman siya sa tingin ko and pine-praise naman ako ni coach. Bino-boost niya yung morale dahil sa pressure ng pagka-libero diba. At hindi ko naman forte iyon." she said.
When asked whether she'll accept the same call if the need arises during the FIVB Women's Club World Championship, Gonzaga had a quick response.
"I'll take the challenge," she said.
