JOVELYN Gonzaga and Nene Bautista topped the Philippine Super Liga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup, downing Cherry Rondina and Patty Orendain, 21-18, 18-21, 15-13, on Sunday at the MOA Sands by the Bay.
Gonzaga and Bautista lost the second set and was behind in the third, 7-10, but fought back to regain control and claim the title.
“Game plan namin ni Nene na targetin si Patty since alam naman namin na si Rondi na napakataas ng percentage ng kills niya,” said Gonzaga.
“Pero noong later part noong third set napag-usapan namin na convert na namin kay Rondina ’yung target ng service namin para maiba naman kasi the least na hindi niya expect na tatargetin siya, hindi siya makakapag-isip,” she added.
Gonzaga pushed RC Cola Army to match point and a wide return from Foton’s Rondina sealed the victory for the Lady Troopers.
“Nag-uusap kami ni Nene na, no doubt, no fears, no question simula noong nagkapartner kami hanggang sa dulo kinapitan namin and thank god binigay niya talaga,” said Gonzaga.
“Nag-iisip kami ni Nene and good thing nag-timeout kami and pagbalik nag-10-all napakabilis ng pangyayari,” added the pride of Sta. Teresa, Jordan, Guimaras, who leaned on experience in the third set.
