JORELLE Singh didn’t waste the opportunity that she waited for so long, proving that she belongs to PLDT Home Fibr and in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference.
Singh missed the volleyball scene since skipping her final season with National University and failing to make it to the final line-up of PLDT last Grand Prix.
Down two sets to Sta. Lucia, the 23-year-old wing spiker got her much-awaited break and reintroduced herself to Philippine volleyball.
She played as a sparkplug that powered PLDT in erasing a two-set deficit to force a fifth set, where she nailed the match-winning spike.
“Ang tagal kong hinintay yung ganitong pangyayari na makapasok ako sa court,” said Singh, who scored 16 points off the bench. “Para sa sarili ko sobrang fulfilling na nakakalaro ako ulit at nakakatulong sa teammates ko.”
Singh never wavered with the daunting task to help her team recover from a two-set deficit, she just though of her purpose in the team.
“Nasa isip ko lang noon is makatulong ako sa team na manalo kami ng game kasi down kami,” she said.
PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb, who fielded in Singh in the third set and didn’t let the team down, is urging the hefty 5-foot-6 spiker to just believe in herself that she really belongs to the Power Hitters and the league.
“Sabi ko nga kay Jo, ‘Hindi ka maswerte. Magaling ka maniwala ka lang sa sarili mo,’” Gorayeb said. “‘Nakakainis ka kaya kalaban, ang liit mo tapos hindi ka mablock.’ Kaya yung kalaban pag nakakapatay ka naiinis.”
“Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Ituloy mo lang, hindi ka maswerte, magaling ka,’” he added.
Singh is grateful for Gorayeb’s faith on her and she’s glad to be back on volleyball court and even delivered the win.
“Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam kasi nagtiwala sa akin si coach, kumbaga pinasok niya ako doon para makatulong sa team ko,” she said. “Pinasok niya ako tapos panalo. Ang sarap sa feeling para sa akin.”
And even as bench player, Singh promises to deliver whenever she gets fielded inside inside the court.
“Kahit pa bench lang ako basta pinasok ako alam kong makakatulong ako,” Singh said.
