JEN Reyes played a key role in taking care of defense for Petron as the Blaze Spikers forced a rubber match against Foton for the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix title.
With Rupia Inck and Aby Marano leading the way on offense, Reyes showed the way on the defensive end by tallying 25 excellent digs in the 25-13, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24 win over the Tornadoes in Mondya’s Game Two of the finals at the Astrodome.
The victory set up a deciding Game Three on Saturday also at the Astrodome.
Petron’s top libero said she was motivated to do well for the Blaze Spikers, who were on the brink of elimination against the Tornadoes after losing the series opener.
“Parang na-challenge kami kasi kami ‘yung delikado. Nag-focus talaga ako sa defense at sa laro ko. Sabi ko, ako ‘yung inaasahan sa team kaya kailanga isa ako sa mga role model nila,” said Reyes.
With Reyes at the defensive helm, Petron had more excellent digs, 55-33, in the victory that kept the Blaze Spikers’ bid for a third straight title alive.
Petron setter Erica Adachi commended Reyes’ play.
“She played amazing today. It was great. We talked before and she is really confident. We need a libero who is like a second leader. And she did it today,” said Adachi.
