Titleholders Foton Tornadoes prove too much for winless Generika Lifesavers

Jaja Santiago and the Tornadoes make it back-to-back wins. 

DEFENDING champion Foton bested Generika, 25-13, 25-13, 25-17, on Thursday for its second win in as many matches in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan.

Maika Ortiz scored 11 and Jaja Santiago had 10 points, while American imports Lindsay Stalzer and Ariel Usher had 10 and nine markers, respectively, for Foton.

The Tornadoes also got an added boost from Angeli Araneta and setter Rhea Dimaculangan, who combined for 11 points.

“This match for today I played my complete 14 players, today is the first time that my players are complete,” said Foton coach Moro Branislav, who called the shots for the PSL squad featuring Stalzer and Santiago in the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship.

The Tornadoes had 35 attacks against 28 by Generika, and hit 10 service aces while the Life Savers were zero from the service line.

Ortiz and Dimaculangan had a combined 10 block points, twice the total of Generika.

“I like the promotion for the domestic young players of Foton, these are the future of volleyball,” said the 59-year old Serbian mentor.

“Kontra Generika I see very interesting fight.”

Russian import Polina Liutikova scored seven for the Life Savers, winless in three matches.
