SMART import Gyselle Silva dropped 56 points to set a new scoring record in the Philippine Super Liga on Saturday at the Batangas City Sports Center.
The Cuban spiker scattered her points from 53 kills and three service aces, her efforts, however, were not enough to bail out Smart as it fell short to Cocolife, 23-25, 21-25, 29-27, 25-19, 14-16.
The loss kept the Giga Hitters winless in nine games, while the Asset Managers cruied to their sixth win in 10 outings to secure a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
Silva shattered the league’s previous record of 41 points set by Cocolife Serbian import Sara Klisura when she suited up for Foton last year.
Klisura, on the other hand, had 35 points.
Meanwhile, Silva’s 56 points is currently the third best scoring output in the world.
Polina Rahimova of Azerbaijan had 58 points in 2015 when she saw action in Japan, American Madison Kingdon had 57 points she set in the Korea Volleyball League in 2017, Bulgarian Elitsa Vasileva also had 57 points in a stint in the KVL in 2013.
American Nicole Fawcett had 55 points also in the KVL in 2013 and former Petron import Alaina Bergsma, who led Blaze Spikers to the 2014 PSL Grand Prix crown, also had 55 points in the KVL in 2016.
