VOLLEYBALL star Gretchen Ho denied rumors the television network war had something to do with her decision not to play for Petron Blaze in the All-Filipino Conference of the Philippine Super Liga.
The former Ateneo spiker made it clear her mother network ABS-CBN did not prevent her from suiting up in the league for which she serves as ambassadress. The PSL is carried on TV by rival station TV 5 and sister network Aksyon TV together with Solar Sports.
Ho said the decision was simply because of her 'crazy' work load in the giant television network, where he hosts three sports-themed shows.
Aside from that, she also runs her own business and accepts hosting gigs, the popular Ho added.
“No, hindi naman dahil doon, hindi nila (ABS-CBN) ako pinigilan,” Ho told Spin.ph on Tuesday.
Petron coach George Pascua earlier told Spin.ph that Ho was not included in the Blaze Spikers’ final roster since her full work schedule did not permit her to suit up in the league.
Ho currently hosts three shows on ABS-CBN Sports, namely, Gameday Weekend, and The Score, and likewise is part of Chinoy TV in PTV4. She also hosts special events on the side and is hands on with her apparel business.
“Nag-break muna ako sa Petron,” she admitted. “Kasi I have work, I have so many commitments. I also had my business, I do events at night, I go out of town. It's a crazy schedule.”
“I can't commit to Petron right now kasi it's a one-year contract. I'm just weighing my options,” she added.
Aside from her hectic workload, the beauteous volleybelle said she is also planning on 'something new' which she refused to divulge at the moment, although she admitted it is something that will also take up much of her time.
“I'm also planning on something so that's where my time is going into. Doon din mapupunta ang passion ko sa volleyball pero secret muna,” she said smiling.
But volleyball fans need not fret as Ho assured she'll be back in active play.
“I'm just taking a break from volleyball but I'm still working out, I'm still finding avenues to play,” she said.
Ho however, will join other volleyball stars who are going to see action in the Nestea Beach Volleyball Fantasy Match in Boracay on May 1 and 2.
Ho will be joined by former La Salle players Michele Gumabao, Cha Cruz, and Melissa Gohing, along with Philippine Army mainstay Rachel Anne Daquis for the two-day event.
Three other players are also being included although their names have yet to be revealed.
