KENDRA Dahlke and Grace Lazard showed the way as PLDT Home Fibr defeated United Volleyball Club, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22, on Thursday at the Arena in San Juan to finish in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix the elimination round on a high note.
Dahlke delivered 24 points off 21 kills, two blocks and an ace as the Power Hitters improved their win-loss record to 8-6 heading into the quarterfinals.
PLDT finished the elimination with 22 points and is vying for the No. 3 spot against Cignal, which has 20 markers ahead of its match against F2 Logistics next week.
Lazard led a comeback from a 12-17 deficit in the first set and finished with 15 points.
Aiko Urdas added nine markers, while Jasmine Nabor made 34 excellent sets on top of 18 digs and three markers.
“Kailangan kasi namin manalo ngayon nalagay sa alanganin yung pwesto namin sa third place,” PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb said. “Kung natalo kami dito wala. Ang hirap pag bumagsak sa fourth or fifth. Mabigat parehas yung laban e.”
“First set tambak kami habol na habol kami. Siyempre natutuwa naman ako kasi losing set naman na yun tapos biglang shift ng momentum in favor of us. Mas maganda,” Gorayeb said.
Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani had 21 points, while Kalei Mau scored 18 points and made 20 excellent receptions and 15 digs for UVC, which dropped to 6-6 for fifth place.
UVC is still in hunt for the twice-to-beat advantage but needs to win its last two games against Petron (12-0) on Saturday and Sta. Lucia (2-9) on Thursday next week.
