GILIGAN’S and Foton Tornadoes arranged a finals clash in the PLDT Home Ultera Philippine Superliga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup 2015 powered by Smart Live More at the Sands By the Bay in SM Mall of Asia on Saturday.
Danika Gendrauli and Norie Jane Diaz of Gilligan's turned back Wensh Tiu and April Rose Hingpit of Cignal HD B, 25-23, 18-21, 15-3, while Tornadoes Patty Orendain and Fiola Ceballos denied Bea Tan and Pau Soriano of sister team Foton Hurricanes, 21-18, 21-16, in the semifinals.
The finals is set to rekindle the rivalry between Cebuana Gendrauli and Ceballos, who have faced off in beach volleyball matches down South.
"Sa regional talo kami," said Ceballos, whose partner in the other tournaments was Army mainstay and fellow Ilongga Jovelyn Gonzaga. "Pero sa championship panalo kami."
Gendrauli had in fact gotten her wish to meet Ceballos and Orendain in the title match.
"Mas gusto ko sila kasi mahirap silang kalaban, may challenge," said Gendrauli, who is more confident on the sand than in the regular six-a-side game.
Orendain said they were motivated to beat their sister team in the semifinals.
"Walang (sister team), kasi 100 percent motivated kami kasi gusto namin makarating sa finals, seryoso talaga kami," said Orendain.
The championship is set on Saturday.
In the quarterfinals, Cignal HD B defeated Meralco, 21-14, 21-18; Foton Hurricane downed Petron XCS, 21-12, 19-21, 15-7; Foton Tornadoes drubbed Philips Gold, 21-9, 21-2; Giligan's denied Amy's, 21-14, 21-11; Petron XCS thrashed Philips Gold, 21-18, 21-13; and Meralco slammed the door on Amy's, 21-17, 21-19.
