AFTER finishing dead last in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix last year, Cignal started 2017 with a major recruiting coup by naming two-time champion coach George Pascua to be its new head coach.
After the resignation of Sammy Acaylar on Tuesday, the HD Spikers management immediately tapped Pascua, who readily signed a contract with the team on Wednesday.
"Syempre honored ako at saka very grateful sa opportunity na binigay ng Cignal management sa akin," he said.
Pascua will lead the Cignal core of Paneng Mercado, Cherry Vivas, Jheck Dionela, Mylene Paat and Janine Marciano while Micmic Laborte will serve as one of his assistant coaches.
Before Cignal, Pascua led Petron to its first PSL title in 2014 Grand Prix with the help of American hitter Alaina Bergsma and Brazilian setter Erica Adachi.
Immediately after that title run, Pascua steered Petron to a rare 13-0 sweep of the PSL All-Filipino conference in 2015 with a solid lineup of Aby Marano, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Fille Cainglet-Cayetano and MVP Rachel Anne Daquis.
He was replaced by Shaq delos Santos prior to the 2016 PSL Grand Prix last September.
