    Streaking Generika-Ayala adds Cignal to victims for solid start to PSL Round 2

    BACOOR CITY — Generika-Ayala continued to wax hot, rolling to its fifth straight win with a 25-21, 27-25, 22-25, 25-16 conquest over Cignal to open its second round on a high note in Pool B of the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the Bacoor Strike Gym.

    The Lifesavers sizzled anew with Patty Orendain, once again, leading the collective effort of her team with 18 points and had 10 digs for an improved 5-3 win-loss record at solo fourth place.

    Ria Meneses and Fiola Ceballos chipped jn 16 and 15 points, respectively. Angeli Araneta contributed 12 markers, while playmaker April Ross Hingpit was also instrumental with 47 excellent sets on top of eight markers. Kath Arado took care of the floor 27 digs and 12 excellent receptions.

    “At least lumabas naman na 'yung pinag-aralan namin kagabi, naba-block namin si Paat at Daquis. Sabi ko sa kanila 'yun talaga ang kailangan namin gawin para manalo,” said Lifesavers assistant coach Parley Tupaz, who once again called the shots for the team as Sherwin Meneses is still in Indonesia for FIVB Level 2 coaching clinic.

    Generika-Ayala has the second-longest active winning streak next to unbeaten Petron (8-0) with five straight victories and has yet to lose a game since starting 0-3.

    But the oozing with confidence Lifesavers will continue to take this conference one game at a time focusing on Cocolife on Thursday, 7 p.m, at the same venue in Bacoor City.

    “Siguro mas mataas na 'yung kumpiyansa namin. Pero, step-by-step lang kami. 'Wag lang masyadong tumaas 'yung kumpiyansa,” Tupaz added.

    Generika-Ayala escaped a tight second set encounter to take a 2-0 set lead but Cignal managed to force another set after winning the third set even it squandered a 24-18 spread, which was trimmed by Orendain, Araneta, Ceballos and Meneses to just two, 24-22, before Ceballos committed a crucial overreaching.

    The Lifesavers caught fire in the fourth set and made a short work of the HD Spikers.

    Myleen Paat had 17 points for the HD Spikers, while Rachel Anne Daquis and Royse Tubino added 13 points each with Daquis having 17 excellent receptions only for Cignal to drop to a 4-4 slate.

    The HD Spikers take on F2 Logistics (6-2) in Pool B also on Thursday at 2 p.m.
