    Generika Ayala stretches PSL streak to four with win over Cocolife

    RESURGENT Generika-Ayala bucked a sluggish start to take down Cocolife, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, on Thursday for its fourth straight win in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Arena in San Juan City.

    The Lifesavers continued to its rise from a 0-3 start to the season, with Patty Orendain, Fiola Ceballos, Angeli Araneta and Ria Meneses showing the way in their fourth win in seven matches.

    Orendain unloaded 22 points, all on kills, while Ceballos nailed 20 hits and made 13 digs and as many excellent receptions in the one-hour and 39-minute encounter.

    Araneta scored 18 and Meneses added 14 markers as the Lifesavers won without head coach Sherwin Meneses, who is attending a FIVB Level 2 coaching clinic in Indonesia.

    Libero Kath Arado had 31 digs and 21 excellent receptions, while April Hingpit came up with 43 excellent sets.

    The Lifesavers climbed to the fifth place although assistant coach Parley Tupaz was not pleased with the poor start.

    “Sobrang kumpiyansa tapos matamlay ayaw gumalaw at least nakarecover akala ko tuloy tuloy na malamya nung umpisa,” he said.

    “Sabi ko kung ayaw niyo na maglaro edi wag na kayo maglaro. Andito tayo para maglaro.”

    “At least bonus na rin sa amin yun nga napaghirapan na rin kasi nagumpisa nung nanalo kami sa F2 (Logistics) yung mga bata tumaas yung morale kasi galing kami sa tatlong sunod na puro talo,” said Generika-Ayala assistant coach Parley Tupaz.

    The Lifesavers look to continue their streak in the group stages facing fourth seed Cignal (4-3) on Tuesday at the Bacoor Strike Gym.

    Fil-Am Kalei Mau once again did everything for Cocolife with season-high 26 points and had a tremendous defensive effort of 16 excellent receptions and 12 digs.

    Libero Denden Lazaro had 30 digs and 11 receptions for the Asset Managers, who slipped to 1-6.

    10 markers each but the Asset Managers ended the first round winning only one of their first seven games.
