GENERIKA-Army eased past AirAsia, 25-19, 25-23, 25-16, at Cuneta Astrodome on Sunday to set up an All Filipino Conference title match with RC Cola Air Force, its third finals appearance in three conferences in the Philippine Super Liga.
Jovelyn Gonzaga came up with 14 points, Ging Balse added 12 and Nene Bautista had 10 as the two-time champion Lady Troopers completed the win in one hour and 23 minutes.
Army will face RC Cola-Air Force in the title match on Saturday. The Raiders edged PLDT in five sets in the other semifinal.
The Lady Troopers faced little resistance in their march to the finals. They put up a five-point lead, 8-3, in the third behind Balse, Gonzaga and Rachel Anne Daquis, and widened the gap, 18-11.
Army was ahead in all departments, registering more digs, 41-20, had a slightly better reception at 23-22, and set the ball much better, 25-11.
“Basta ang naging game plan lang namin, i-target kung sino ang mahina mag-receive, i-establish ang blocking at i-stop sina (Abi) Marano, (Cha) Cruz at (Paneng) Mercado,” said Army coach Rico de Guzman.
Stephanie Mercado was the lone Flying Spiker to finish in double digits with 10.
AirAsia and PLDT will battle for third place on also on Saturday.
