GENERIKA avenged its first-round loss to Cignal, pulling off a 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 victory on Sunday in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Arellano University star Angelica Macabalitao scored 14 points, including the match-clinching service ace, as Generika joined Standard Insurance Navy in the early lead in the race for fifth place.
Generika assistant coach Rosemarie Prochina, who called the shots as head coach Francis Vicente is still in Thailand to handle the national youth team for the AVC Under-19 women’s volleyball championship, revealed that management wanted them to claim fifth place.
“Kailangan naming manalo talaga, ’yun ang hiling sa amin ng management ng Generika na sana manalo kami itong game na ito para tumaas naman ang morale ng mga bata,” said Prochina.
Gen Casugod scored 13, Shaya Adorador added 12 points and Wensh Tiu had 10 for the Lifesavers, who lost in four sets to Cignal in their first meeting.
“Inisip namin na sana makabawi man lang. Sila kasi iniisip nila na manalo pero pagdating dyan parang kinakabahan siguro mental lapse. So at least nakabawi na,” said Prochina.
College of St. Benilde middle blocker Jeannette Panaga scored 15, Carmela Tunay had 14 points and Cherry May Vivas added 12 for the HD Spikers.
