BABES Castillo has been hired Sta. Lucia head coach in the Philippine Superliga, but he remained mum on speculations he is already out as National University mentor.
Castillo confirmed to Spin.ph that he has been brought in to replace George Pascua, who had a winless all-Filipino campaign losing 11 straight matches.
“Lagi naman may expectations, hindi naman mawawala ‘yan. They [management] just told me to bring up the ranking,” Castillo said.
“Wala naman, ‘di naman ako nape-pressure. I think everyone wants to win, to be in the number one (place) para naman ‘wag masayang ang pinaghirapan.”
Castillo, however, refused to comment when asked about the rumors that former De La Salle Green Spikers head coach Norman Miguel is set to replace him at the helm for the NU Lady Bulldogs.
There are also rumors that assistant coach Regine Diego is set to take over from him as Lady Bullpups head coach after their four-year UAAP reign was ended by De La Salle Zobel last December.
“Regarding sa NU, I cannot comment on that. I really cannot tell you anything right now. Wala pa naman sila nilalabas na official statement so I cannot say anything muna,” he said.
Miguel also refused to make a comment on the issue.
“As per the instruction and advise of the sports office, antay na lang daw po yung press statement po on this matter,” Miguel told Spin.ph.
Castillo said he is pleased to preside over Sta. Lucia's rebuilding.
“Not sure with the lineup, within the week we will finalize regarding the players. This week kami mag-uusap with management regarding the lineup,” he said. “We had a series of tryouts already, oo naman I’m happy with the outcome. We started on the 28th and 29th
“Kailangan eh. No holiday tayo kasi rebuilding team.”
