SISTERS Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Jaja Santiago lifted Foton to its fifth straight victory at the expense of PLDT Home Fibr, 25-21, 25-21, 25-15, in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Dindin continued her resurgence for the Tornadoes as she delivered a game-high 14 points, all coming from attacks while Jaja was just as dominant as she put up 13 points off 10 kills, two blocks and an ace.
Elaine Kasilag contributed 10 points while playmaker Gyzelle Sy had 17 excellent sets, 12 digs and four points as Foton rose to solo third place with a 6-3 win-loss record.
Foton head coach Aaron Velez stressed there is still a lot of room for improvement.
“Satisfied pero marami pa kaming kailangan gawin,” Velez said. “Hindi kami pwedeng makuntento kasi ngayon may mga bagay kaming wino-work out as a group kumbaga kailangan mas convincing pa parati yung dapat naming gagawin.”
The Tornadoes made 48 kills to outmuscle the Power Hitters, who only had 35 spikes, and finished the match in just one hour and 24 minutes capped by a strong 10-point rout in the third set.
Grethcel Soltones led PLDT with 13 points laced with 11 digs and nine excellent receptions while skipper Jerrili Malabanan had 12 points. But the two couldn't save the Power Hitters from a fifth straight loss.
