MINA Aganon and Arianne Layug showed the way as Foton defeated winless Sta. Lucia, 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 25-13, to extend its unbeaten run to three games and gain a share of lead of the 2018 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Aganon and Layug combining for 32 of the team’s 52 excellent spikes. Aganon, who averaged 17 points in their first two matches, unloaded 17 kills and wound up with 19 points, while Layug registered her PSL-high 17 hits including 15 digs.
CJ Rosario chipped in nine hits, Maika Ortiz and Shaya Adorador added eight markers apiece, while libero Jen Reyes had 24 digs and 17 excellent receptions as the Tornadoes joined F2 Logistics on top.
“We want to find out our composition din as a team. It was test for us on how we can come back from a down set. We're still looking for chemistry,” said Foton coach Aaron Velez.
“I'm really happy, but not content. Makikita mo naman sa mga bata na, slowly, maganda na 'yung response. Hopefully, as the days go by, mas magkaroon kami na rapport,” he added.
After being caught napping in the third, Foton caught fire again in the fourth frame, going on an 8-1 start and never looking back.
The Lady Realtors suffered their third loss as they continued to miss Fil-Am star MJ Phillips due to a shoulder injury.
Jhoana Maraguinot was once again the lone Sta. Lucia player to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points and making 11 excellent receptions. Rubie De Leon, who made nine excellent sets and 12 digs and even had a higher scoring outputs than the other Lady Realtors spikers with eight points.
Foton will gun for its fourth win against Smart (1-0) on Tuesday, 4:15 p.m., while Sta. Lucia battles Cignal (1-2) at 7 p.m.
