    Foton denies winless Sta. Lucia to end three-game skid, clinch PSL fourth seed

    BATANGAS City — Foton disposed Sta. Lucia, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, on Tuesday to end the preliminary round of of the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference on a high note at Batangas City Sports Coliseum.

    Mina Aganon finished with 17 points and 13 digs for the Tornadoes, who snapped a three-game losing streak as they improved to 6-4.

    Carla Sandoval also had 13 markers and 13 excellent receptions for Foton, while team captain Miak Ortiz had 11 points.

    “Nakalimutan naming mag-enjoy,” said Foton coach Aaron Velez. “Kumbaga maganda ang simula namin and then may mga unfortunate na sitwasyon na nangyari.”

    “I think masyado kaming naka-focus doon (sa mga talo) instead na to look forward (sa next games),” he added.

    Foton is currently tied with Generika-Ayala with identical win-loss records, but due to the Life Savers’ higher quotient, the Tornadoes will be relegated to the fourth spot and will face the fifth-seed team.

    As of posting time Cignal (4-5) is playing against Cocolife (1-8), if the HD Spikers win the match they will face the Tornadoes in the knockout quarterfinals.

    Skipper Pamela Lastimosa led the way for the Lady Realtors with 21 points, built on 19 attacks, while Souzan Raslan added 16 and Jhoana Maraguinot contributed 11.

    Sta. Lucia remained winless at the end of the preliminary round (0-10) and will face top-seed Petron (10-0) in the knockout quarterfinals on Thursday.
