BINAN, Laguna — Foton snapped a three-match losing run with a 25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 19-25, 15-9, over Philips Gold in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference on Saturday at Alonte Sports Arena.

Patty Jane Orendain scored 21 points, while rookie Pam Lastimosa added 17 as the Tornadoes evened their record to 4-4.

Nicole Tiamzon scored 14 and Angeli Araneta contributed 11 markers, while Foton also got a huge lift from alternate Royse Estampa.

Sent in late in the fourth, Estampa came up with crucial block points towards the end of the match and finished with five big points.

“Si Royse kasi everytime she’s on the court she wants to learn,” said Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon. “So kanina we told her to concentrate on blocking and that’s what she did.”

With Foton in control in the fifth, Desiree Dadang came up with a spike and Iris Tolenada scored on a service ace to put Philips Golds closer, 9-13. But a Michele Gumabao spike that went out gave Foton the match point and Orendain’s two-handed drop at the net sealed the win for the Tornadoes.

"We did the math and we cannot afford to lose this game for us to reach our goal,” she added.

The match, Philips Gold’s third straight five-setter, lasted two hours and 21 minutes. The Lady Slammers suffered their fifth loss in nine matches.

“We lacked the energy in our past games, as in walang buhay talaga,” said De Leon, noting the players were down after Dzi Gervacio suffered a knee injury.

“And partly na-down sila noong na injure si Dzi. Nagulat ang mga bata kasi may mga game plan na kami pero sabi ko nga everybody should step up.”

Myla Pablo scored 22 points and Gumabao had 20, while Philips Golds libero Melissa Gohing had a total of 18 digs and 20 perfect reception.
