LUCENA CITY — Foton completed the Super Liga semifinals cast, whipping Mane ‘N Tail, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19, on Saturday in the knockout quarterfinal match of the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.
Rookies Pam Lastimosa and Nicole Tiamzon led Foton with 17 and 11 points, respectively, while veteran Patty Jane Orendain added 10.
It was a huge win for Vilet Ponce de Leon’s Tornadoes, who were coming off a five-set loss to Shopinas in the final match of the elimination round on Thursday.
“Very disappointed kami,” Ponce de Leon about the loss to Shopinas. “But then again the nature is telling us otherwise, meron kaming dapat matutunan.”
The Tornadoes set up a rematch with Shopinas in the semifinals on Monday, while Philips Gold will tangle with Petron.
Foton squandered a seven-point lead, 16-9, in the third set when Mane ‘N Tail came up with seven unanswered points to tie the contest at 16.
The Tornadoes then came up with a 6-2 run to take control. Foton scored the last three points of the match to book the last ticket to the semis.
“Ayaw kong humaba ang game,” sid Ponce de Leon. “Good thing sila nakita nila how things could turn out the other way.”
Honey Tubino, whoarrived late Friday night from Zamboanga after attending the wake of a family member, scored 12 points. Danika Gendrauli added 10.
