FOTON finally ended an 11-game losing slide after it turned back Sta. Lucia, 12-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-15, in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan on Tuesday.
Spanish import Milagros Collar made 15 points, while Jaja Santiago had 13, Mina Aganon chipped in 12 and American import Courtney Felinski contributed 11 for the Tornadoes, who improved to 2-11.
Foton’s last victory was during the conference opener on February 16, when it defeated United VC in four sets.
“A win is a win, however, mahaba ang losing streak so ‘yung pagdududa nandoon pa rin,” said Foton coach Aaron Velez.
“So ang gagawin na lang namin talaga magsusuportahan ang bawat isa from the coaches, the players and the management,” he added.
Velez mentioned that Santiago’s return from her Japan stint is a big boost for the team, however, he also insisted that volleyball is a team sport and they cannot rely only to one player.
“Malaking bagay kasi talagang meron siyang [Santiago] factor sa opensa and depensa pero, again, nandoon pa rin sa team work eh, kung paano kami magje-jell pero pipilitin namin punuan ang mga dapat naming punuan,” he said.
Rachel Austero and Casey Schoenlein each had 12 points for Sta. Lucia, while Molly Lohman had 11.
The Lady Realtors slid to 2-11.
