NICOLE Tiamzon came up with solid shots above the net and from the service line as well-rested Foton whipped weary Shopinas.com, 25-17, 25-17, 25-17, on Monday in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The 19-year old University of the Philippines skipper led all scorers with 19 points from 15 spikes, three service aces and a block to help Foton register its second win in three outings. Patty Orendain added 13 for the Tornadoes, which moved to joint second with the Clickers behind Petron (2-0).
Shopinas.com was playing back-to-back nights after a three-set win over Philips Gold on Sunday, but had sort of an advantage early against Foton as coach Vilet Ponce de Leon missed the opening set as she had to travel from her office to the playing venue.
However, the Tornadoes managed to play solid without their mentor and stunned the erstwhile co-leaders.
“Priority ko kasi ‘yung corporate job ko,” said Ponce de Leon. “Pero naka-set naman na ang game plan namin and I’m very confident sa mga bata that they will perform.
“Kilala ko sila and may paniniwala ako sa preparation namin,” she added.
Tiamzon sparked a 6-0 run in the third set that put Foton ahead, 21-14.
Rizza Mandapat stopped the bleeding for Shopinas.com as the Lady Clickers came up with a 3-1 spurt but Angeli Araneta scored at the middle and Orendain’s back-to-back hits sealed the win for the Tornadoes.
Paneng Mercado and Cha Cruz scored five points apiece for Shopinas.com.
