Foton coach hopes to keep tradition of asserting mastery vs Petron in PSL Grand Prix semis duel

    Dec 8, 2017

THREE-peat seeking Foton will face a familiar foe in the semifinals of the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix and for coach Moro Branislav believes it’s ‘tradition’ for them to go up against Petron.

Game time is at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“This is normal to play against Petron,” said Branislav. “Foton likes playing against Petron.”

“It’s (become) a tradition to play a good match (against Petron),” he added.

For the past two Grand Prix championships, the Tornadoes and the Blaze Spikers are pushing each other to the limit.

In the 2015 edition, Lindsay Stalzer delivered the goods for Foton to deny then Rupia Inck-led Petron, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17, in Game Three.

The following year, Stalzer teamed up with Ariel Usher and Jaja Santiago against the Blaze Spikers, who leaned on prolific American spiker Stephanie Niemer.

      Unlike their first meeting, the 2016 showdown ended in two games, 20-25 21-25 25-22 25-17 15- 9, and 25-20 25-20 22-25 25-17.

This year, however, will be much different with Stalzer switching sides to Petron.

But Foton got a new reinforcement in Sara Klisura, who registered a league-record 41 points.

Still, Branislav insisted that he will just enjoy the ‘traditional’ match between Foton and Petron.

“This is quality Grand Prix, it’s a very good match (to see),” he said.
