EYA Laure scored six of her 24 points in the fifth set as Foton beat Generika-Ayala, 21-25, 25-17, 27-25, 19-25, 15-11, on Sundayin the Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference at the Arena in San Juan.
The Tornadoes overcame 30 errors to take the win for a 3-3 record, in second place in Pool D behind F2 Logistics.
“Hinihingi ko na rin yung bola, honestly kasi minsan iniisip ko na parang kumbaga nakatutok na sila sa akin e kaya ibigay o hindi ready lang ako,” said Laure. “Andito na kami sayang naman kung ibibigay lang namin kumbaga yung pinagdaanan din ng team namin hindi rin biro. Ito na lang yug gusto naming bumawi sa Foton sa paraan na ganito.”
Shaya Adorador had 19 points, Marian Buitre scored 14 including six blocks, while EJ Laure added 11 markers.
“Masayang masaya ako kung paano naglaro yung mga bata kasi hindi naman kami parating nagkakatraining ng sabay sabay pero kanina mas nanginbabaw yung kagustuhan nila manalo,” said Foton coach Aaron Velez
Foton is hoping F2 Logistics (4-1) gets past Sta. Lucia (2-3) to avoid a quotient tiebreaker for the last semifinal spot in Pool D.
If the Cargo Movers prevail, the Tornadoes advance to a knockout semifinal match with Petron on Tuesday in Malolos City.
Mean Mendrez had 16 points, Ria Meneses and Patty Orendain had 14 points each, while Yeye Gabarda added 12 markers for Generika-Ayala, which suffered its fifth loss in six matches.
