FIOLA Ceballos is heeding coach Sherwin Meneses’ call, taking on a bigger role with Generika as team captain Angeli Araneta remains sidelined.
The Lifesavers got a big boost from Ceballos in a five-set win over Cignal that pushed them back to third spot behind F2 and Petron in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference.
Ceballos had a career-high 30 points and made 30 digs as Generika improved its win-loss record to 8-5.
Lifesavers coach Sherwin Meneses was impressed.
“Nakausap ko nga yan e, talagang naka-peak siya e. Two weeks siyang ganyan, talagang napakaganda ng nilalaro niya,” said Meneses.
“Tapos talagang masipag e, buti nagbunga yung sipag niya. Talagang peak niya, grabe yung palo, yun lang masasabi ko.”
Ceballos hopes to be able to sustain the fine play.
“Siguro ginagawa ko lang rin yung dapat gawin like I'm just playing my game kasi nga wala si Neta,” Ceballos said.
“So yun nga sabi ni coach, dapat may mag step up talaga inside the court. Yun nga, makinig lang sa sinasabi ng coaches at yun ang gagawin inside the court.”
Meneses is glad players are following Ceballos’s lead.
“Nakita ko yug aggressive nila na kahit wala yung captain nila na si Angeli, nagstep up yung mga players. Individually, leaders sila so yun yung nagustuhan ko sa kanila,” Meneses said.
