FILLE Cainglet-Cayetano returned to volleyball on a winning note on Saturday as Petron held off Generika at the start of the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Although a return to the volleyball scene was always part of her plans after marriage and motherhood, the former Ateneo charmer revealed that she did not expect to be back in the swing this early.
"Actually hindi ko rin ine-expect na ganito kaaga," she told a handful of sportswriters inside the dugout after scoring two points in the Blaze Spikers' 26-24, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23 victory over Generika.
After she graduated from Ateneo in 2013, Cainglet-Cayetano got married to Taguig congressman Lino Cayetano in December the same year and gave birth to Ino Philip five months ago.
She returned to training five weeks ago and competitive volleyball soon followed.
"Kasi five weeks ago sabi ng doctor ko cleared na ako, so nag-jog ako, I run, I do pilates with my husband, then nakiki-training ako sa Ateneo for conditioning," she added.
It was her former Ateneo teammate Gretchen Ho who encouraged her to go back to competitive volleyball immediately.
"Tapos si Gretchen, pinipilit ako na sumali na raw ako sa Petron and si Sir Errol Collantes (Petron therapist and trainer) sabi sa akin naayos na raw niya. So I'm very thankful and blessed sa opportunity," she continued.
Cainglet-Cayetano, however, said she is fully aware that her comeback won't be a picnic, especially while she juggles her other roles as wife and mother.
"I'll get there. I know there will be obstacles and challenges on my comeback pero sanay na rin naman ako, kasi ever since elementary ako student-athlete na ako."
