F2 Logistics avoided a meltdown from a hard-fighting Generika-Ayala, 25-19, 25-27, 25-22, 18-25, 15-13, to stay unbeaten in 10 games, preserving the solo lead in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan City.
The Cargo Movers blew a 2-1 set lead, failing to close out the match in the fourth set and needed to recover from a 7-10 disadvantage in the decider as they committed five of their 32 errors.
Desiree Cheng stopped the bleeding before Ara Galang and Kianna Dy equalized the match, 11-all. Angeli Araneta kept the frame tied for Generika-Ayala afloat at 12 but she hurt her left knee after an awkward landing from a spike and failed to return.
Dy nailed a hit of her own putting F2 Logistics at match point, 14-12, before Patty Orendain saved a marker but Aby Maraño closed out the match with a dink to keep her team unbeaten in 10 games and survived a two-hour and 42-minute match.
“Sabi ko hindi naman mamimigay ng kumpiyansa yung kalaban niyo kayo mismo yung kukuha ng kumpiyansa,” F2 Logistics head coach Ramil De Jesus said. “Nawala yung respect sa Generika. Alam kong hindi napaghandaan ng maayos ito.”
“Alam nila na first meeting namin is straight set. Ngayon binigyan sila ng magandang laban,” he added. “Dapat hindi umabot ng ganito kahaba yung game kung tamang desisyon.”
Kalei Mau unleashed a game-high 25 points but struggled in attacking hitting only 24 of 77 attempts and protected the floor with 23 digs and 16 excellent receptions, while Ara Galang delivered 16 points.
Majoy Baron put up a block party providing nine of her team’s 17 blocks for 14 points. Cheng added 10 markers, while Dawn Macandili was everywhere with 43 digs and 12 excellent receptions.
The Lifesavers dropped to 6-5 win-loss record at fourth place despite forcing the Cargo Movers to their first five-setter match of the conference.
Fiola Ceballos led Generika-Ayala with 22 points including 27 digs. Patty Orendain had 16 points including 11 excellent receptions, while Araneta and Ria Meneses added 11 markers apiece.
