BACOOR CITY — Ara Galang and Majoy Baron led the charge for F2 Logistics in taking down Cignal, 25-22, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, and extending its winning streak to five games for the solo second place in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the Bacoor Strike Gym.
Invitational Most Valuable Player Galang showed the way for the Cargo Movers with 18 points off 16 spikes and a pair of aces on top of 10 excellent receptions, while Baron scattered eight kills, five blocks and, three aces for 16 hits as they trounced the HD Spikers in one hour and 36 minutes.
Cha Cruz-Behag had 12 points on top of 23 digs, while Aby Maraño added 10 markers. Fajardo was also instrumental with 45 excellent sets as F2 Logistics tighten its grip at second place with 7-2 win-loss record even missing opposite hitter Kianna Dy for the second straight game due to knee soreness and the wake of her grandmother in Davao.
F2 Logistics tries to sweep Pool B in its face-off against first-round tormentor Generika-Ayala on Saturday, 6 p.m., at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
Cargo Movers coach Ramil de Jesus said that he was happy even they lost in the second set as his wards fought back from down 17-24 and cut it down to 23-24 only for Mylene Paat to end the frame and level the match to one-set apiece.
“Happy naman kasi nakikita mo 'yung kapit. Nakikita mo 'yung determinasyon manalo kahit hindi kumpleto 'yung team,” said De Jesus, whose wards routed the HD Spikers in the succeeding sets.
Cignal managed to stay within striking distance in all departments as it had a 12-10 advantage in blocking, trailed only three in attacking, 42-45 and had 10 team aces each. But the Cargo Movers played more flawless with only 14 errors, while the HD Spikers committed 33 miscues.
Paat had 18 points, while Rachel Anne Daquis delivered 15 hits including 15 excellent receptions for the HD Spikers only for them to stay winless in the second round dropping to a 4-5 card
Cignal will try to end its second round on a high note facing Cocolife on Tuesday next week, 7 p.m., at the Batangas City Coliseum
