FORMER UAAP MVP Ara Galang has embraced an off-the-bench role as F2 Logistics stepped up its pursuit of back-to-back Philippine Super Liga (PSL) championships.
Galang played a key role in the Cargo Movers' 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 win over Petron on Thursday, scoring 11 points after coming in for fellow former La Salle star Cha Cruz midway through the first set.
She has actually grown into the role as the former La Salle star spiker tries to regain her stature as one of the best in the land after the horror knee injury she suffered in 2015.
“Honestly, masaya ako na nakatulong sa team, na nagampanan ko ‘yung role na binigay sa akin,” she said after F2 Logistics tied the best-of-three finals as one win apiece.
“Kumbaga ‘yung trust na binigay nila sa akin hindi ko sinayang. Masaya (sa pakiramdam).”
The key, Galang said, is to always be ready.
“Kung bench player ka, kailangan ready ka lagi eh,” she added. “Kahit na maganda ‘yung ginagalaw sa loob ng mga kasama mo, kumbaga, dapat meron ka pa rin sa sarili mo na ready ka pa rin in case, di ba?”
Thursday's performance certainly came as a confidence boost for Galang, but she's taking it one step at a time ahead of the winner-take-all match on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
“Syempre, kami, ‘yung goal pa rin namin is ‘yung championship,” she added. “Step by step lang. Ngayon tapos na sa Game Two, sa Game Three naman kami magfo-focus.”
