F2 Logistics needed to buck a sluggish start before taking down winless Generika-Ayala, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16, for its fifth straight victory to keep its share of lead in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Tuesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Lindsay Stalzer unloaded 26 points built on 21 kills, three blocks and two service aces to lift the Cargo Movers from a first set loss, where they squandered a 21-18 lead allowing the Lifesavers to unleash a 7-0 run to draw the first blood, before getting their acts together to prevail in an hour and 52-minute battle.
Stalzer also took care of floor defense with 17 excellent receptions and 13 digs. Ara Galang was also instrumental chipping in 17 points as well as Aby Maraño adding 14 hits, while other import Becky Perry delivered 13 points including 14 digs.
“Hindi na kami nakaalis nung 21-18 siguro dalawang beses lang nakaikot very limited lang yung binigay na bola yun lang yung inadjust ko sa setter,” said F2 Logistics head coach Ramil De Jesus referring to playmaker Alex Cabanos, who is filling in the big shoes of Kim Fajardo nursing a fractured finger. “Yung setter namin hindi pa makakuha ng kumpiyansa, Nagaadjust pa talaga. Yung huli sabi ko, ‘taas mo lang kung ano yung nakikita mong advantage ibigay mo.‘“
Cabanos recovered from her first set struggles and finished with 36 excellent sets as F2 Logistics kept its immaculate 5-0 win-loss record tied with rival Petron, which it battles for the solo lead on Thursday.
The Cargo Movers overcame the tight encounter in the second and third sets before unleashing a strong fourth frame performance, where they pulled away from a slim 11-9 cushion as Stalzer led their 8-1 run for a19-10 spread and never looked back.
Skipper Angeli Araneta led Generika-Ayala with 14 points. Thai import Kanjana Kuthaisong had 12 hits including 12 digs and 10 excellent receptions, while Patty Orendain and other reinforcement Kseniya Kocygit added 11 and nine, respectively.
The Lifesavers remained winless in six games and will play their last first round match against skidding Foton Tornadoes (1-5) also on Thursday.
