LINDSAY Stalzer nailed the clutch hits in the third set to help depleted F2 Logistics in sweeping Foton, 25-20, 25-20, 26-24, for its fourth straight win in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Thursday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Stalzer, once again, showed the way for the Cargo Movers, hitting the killer spikes in the third set and finishing with 18 points to go with 14 excellent receptions and eight digs. Fellow import Becky Perry was also instrumental with seven kills, four blocks and three service aces for 14 hits.
F2 Logistics missed setter Kim Fajardo, who will be out for two weeks due to a fractured finger that she sustained from last Wednesday’s game against United Volleyball Club. She joined other injured players Cha Cruz (shoulder injury) and Kianna Dy (injured knee).
Substitute Setter Alex Cabanos stepped up with 20 excellent sets on top of four aces helping the Cargo Movers in forcing a share of lead with Petron Blaze Spikers with identical 4-0 win-loss records.
“Late ko na nanotice na may problema si Kim hindi kami nakapagtraining ng si Alex ginagamit namin,” F2 Logistics coach Ramil De Jesus said. “So far si Alex nakapagdeliver naman ng maayos pero may mga lapses kasi. Hindi pa niya kabisado yung starter, sa second six siguro. Tsaka very limited lang time ko pag ginagamit ko siya. Ito natapos niya yung game.”
F2 Logistics battles the winless Generika-Ayala (0-4) on Tuesday next week.
After convincingly taking the first two sets, the Cargo Movers were pushed to their limits by the Tornadoes, who led the third set with a 16-14 cushion.
A pair of spikes from Stalzer and two aces from Cabanos gave F2 Logistics a 20-18 lead before Perry nailed two kills in the next three points for a 23-22 breather only for Foton import Courtney Felinski to tie it.
Tornadoes’ substitute player Carla Sandoval committed a service error that put F2 Logistics at match point before Felinski forced a deuce.
Ara Galang and Stalzer scored the massive cross court hits to complete the win.
Imports Courtney Felinski and Selime Ilyasoglu had 18 and 14 points, respectively, for Foton, which reeled with 1-3 slate at sixth place.
The Tornadoes try to bounce back against the Cignal HD Spikers (3-1) on Saturday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
