F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus believes there will be no clash of egos despite having five of his former La Salle team captains teaming up for the Cargo Movers in their Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference campaign.
The veteran mentor has five generations of La Salle skippers from his UAAP teams - namely Paneng Mercado (Season 72), Cha Cruz (Seasons 73-74), Aby Marano (Season 76), top rookie pick Ara Galang (Season 77) and Kim Fajardo (Season 78).
But he considers this a boon rather than a bane for his star-studded team.
Last year, de Jesus paraded the same lineup sans Marano in the Grand Prix under his former team Meralco, which underperformed as they only placed placed fifth in a six-team conference.
But De Jesus asserted that F2 Logistics will not suffer the same fate, especially with the five battle-tested vets providing what the team sorely lacked in their previous stint.
“Before problema ng team is leadership,” said de Jesus on Thursday during the press conference held at Centerstage in MOA.
“Ngayon ang dami na nila so hindi ko na problema ‘yun (leadership),” he added with a good laugh.
But for the F2 Logistics skipper Cruz, who noted that being team captain is just a tag, much work remains to be done if they are to avoid another letdown.
Cruz urged her teammates, who also include former and current La Salle stars Mika Reyes, Cyd Demecillo, Kim Dy, Majoy Baron, Dawn Macandili as well as Cebu hotshot Danika Gendrauli, to always be on top of their game regardless of the position and designation on the team.
“Yes, madami sa amin team captain but hindi naman ibig sabihin noon magiging complacent na kami kasi may leaders naman,” she said.
“Kailangan pa rin namin mag-step up. It should start with us kasi how can we lead the team kung sa sarili namin wala,” added Cruz.
F2 Logistics opens their PSL campaign against an equally talented Cignal team at 2 p.m. on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
