EYA Laure felt weird facing University of Santo Tomas captain Sisi Rondina in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference bronze medal match.
The last time Laure and Rondina played at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, they led UST winning Game One of the UAAP Season 81 Finals over Ateneo.
On Saturday, the Tigresses dynamic duo were against each other for the first time with Laure helping Foton, while Rondina leading Petron to the bronze-medal conquest.
“Ang weird ng feeling ko kasi si ate Sisi nasa kabilang court,” said Laure. “Hindi ako sanay na nakikita ko siya sa kabila. Sanay kasi ako na magkateammate kami.”
While the rookie spiker was feeling weird, Rondina meant business to bounce back from their semifinals loss as she fueled Petron with 33 points and scored five of the last six points in the fifth set for a 28-26, 25-27, 25-21, 24-26, 15-12 victory over Foton.
“Noong kalaban ko siya may mga bola na ‘Sabi ko na nga ba doon pupunta yun e.’Mga ganung feeling na ‘Ano ba yan di ko nanaman nakuha,’” said Laure who scored 11 points against her former teammate.
The UAAP Rookie of the Year said that facing the reigning MVP is just one of the many fruitful experiences she learned in her short stint in the All-Filipino Conference, where she was activated from the reserve list in the team’s last four matches.
“Ibang-iba yung environment kung paano maglaro. Yung level nga iba parang kumbaga kung ako na naglalaro sa college. Masasabi kong madami pa akong bigas na kailangang kainin,” Laure said.
The rookie sensation is still unsure if she will play for Foton in the Invitational conference as it depends if UST grants her permission.
