THAI guest team Est Cola rose from a three-point deficit in the third set to turn back Petron, 25-12, 25-12, 25-23, in the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Sasipaporn Janthawisut finished with 18 points for the Thais, while Sutadta Chuewulim and Wipawee Srithong added 14 and 11 markers, respectively.
After dominating the first two sets, Est Cola trailed by three points, 20-23, before mounting a comeback to send the Tri-Activ Spikers winless in two games in the final round.
“Third set, I tried to change position,” said Est Cola coach Chamnan Dokmai. “We have many unforced errors, the system is okay but the last set we have many mistakes, [because] the team is very young.”
But the seasoned coached, whose wards are players from the Thai youth team, preferred to learn things the hard way.
“But this is good for us, we learn from the Philippine teams how to handle pressure,” he said.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas led the way for Petron with 12 points in a losing effort.
Est Cola will next face RC Cola Army on Saturday to determine who will be the tournament's champion.
