TOO many turnovers caused Petron to run out of gas against PLDT Home TVolution and bow out of semifinal contention in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference.
The Blaze Spikers went down, 25-16, 21-25, 18-25, 22-25, in their knockout quarterfinal game against the Power Attackers on Sunday at the Astrodome.
Petron coach George Pascua lamented how Petron negated the 15 blocks it registered after committing a total of 34 errors which the Power Attackers used to their advantage.
"Una, ang ganda ng first set namin, nasunod ang game plan - 'wag makaka-receive ng bola ang libero," he said. "Tapos sa third and fourth sets, nag-change sila ng game plan at nawalan na ng service at receive."
Top pick and star player Dindin Santiago, who averaged 24.8 points in the eliminations when Petron opened its campaign with three straight victories, herself became a liability down the stretch.
Petron was holding on to a 21-20 lead in the fourth set, but the Power Attackers scored five of the last six points of the game, three of which came off Petron turnovers, including two by Santiago.
"Si Dindin 'yung consistency niya as a player, magaling siya, pero sa endgame doon siya nawawala," said Pascua of the former National University stalwart who finished with 28 points.
"'Sa ganoong puntusan 'di pa mature. Di niya kasi ma-overcome 'yung pressure na nasa kanya," he added.
Petron will face the loser between the Cagayan Valley-AirAsia match on Sunday to determine its final placing.
