POWERHOUSE Petron put away an emphatic 25-19, 25-12, 25-23 win over Shopinas.com to complete a sweep of the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference eliminations at the Cuneta Astrodome on Monday night.
Dindin Santiago-Manabat came up with 18 points for the Blaze Spikers, who also got nine points from Aby Marano and six from Rachel Anne Daquis in winning their 10th straight game at the end of their elims schedule.
Aby Marano and Rachel Anne Daquis added nine and six points, respectively for Petron, which needed an hour and 23 minutes to take the win.
Last year’s Grand Prix champion coach George Pascua said the sweep was the first goal the Blaze Spikers set for themselves, but warned they are still far from achieving the ultimate goal of bagging another title.
“Objective talaga namin ang maka-sweep and then later on syempre goal namin mag-champion kaya motivated sila,” said Pascua after a match that took just an hour and 23 minutes to finish.
Shopinas put up a huge fight in the third set by pulling within 13-14, only to see Petron step on the gas by winning four successive points.
“Nagagawa kasi namin ng tama ang game plan namin and napaghahandaan namin ang mga laro dahil may regular training kami,” said Pascua, whose squad is assured of a place in the semifinals.
PSL ambassadress Cha Cruz and Paneng Mercado had seven points apiece to lead the Lady Clickers, who dropped to 5-4 for a share of second spot with Foton.
Shopinas.com and Foton will face off on Thursday for the second outright spot in the semifinals. The loser will join the three other teams in the knockout quarterfinals.
