FOTON is off to a winning start, nipping Generika-Ayala, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22 in the Chooks to Go-Philippine SuperLiga Grand Prix opener on Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Elizabeth Wendel gave the Tornadoes a 23-20 lead before Dindin Santiago-Manabat put it at match point, 24-21.
Carmina Aganon's shot went short in the ensuing play but American Brooke Kranda came to the rescue, smashing a crosscourt hit that sealed the win.
Kranda finished with 21 points including two blocks for the Tornadoes, who welcomed Santiago-Manabat back after injuring her left knee last year.
Santiago-Manabat had 14 points, while Wendel chipped in 11.
"Yung imports namin jittery pa nung una pero happy naman, maganda start sa tournament. Hopefully makapag adjust sa errors," said Foton coach Romel Abella.
The Lifesavers were paced by import Darlene Ramdin with 19 points on 17 spikes.
