DIMDIM Pacres earned the nod of Japanese coach Nakanishi Yasumi when the Marinerang Pilipina standout provided the energy for Team Sparkle in the Philippine Super Liga Super Cup at The Arena in San Juan on Tuesday.
Despite taking the game in straight sets, the University of Tsukuba mentor was impressed with the stocky opposite spiker out of University of Santo Tomas.
“Very good volleyball sense. Not very good in physical but [she has] net play and ball control,” said Nakashi.
When told about Nakashi’s comments, Pacres was obviously overwhelmed with happiness.
The Cebuana volleybelle even told other stocky players to not lose hope and just keep on pushing on.
“Oh my god, so oh my god, thank you coach. Sobrang sarap sa feeling kasi Japan coach na ‘yun eh na-very good ako kahit na ganito ako,” said Pacres. “So lahat ng ganito ang katawan ‘wag kayong mawalan ng pag-asa guys.”
Pacres, however, knows that she needs to lose some weight for her to improve her game.
“‘Yun nga, ‘yun nga ang problema natin. Kasi kahit anong gawin ko mahirap po talaga iwasan ‘yung pagkain pero tina-try ko naman,” she said.
Although she only had two points in the entire match, for Pacres, it was both a privilege and a challenge going up against the much faster and more skillful Japanese squad.
“Nakipag-umbagan din ako, nakipag-bilisan din ako sa kanila. Char lang. Oo, happy kasi nakaka-challenge sila kasi china-challenge nila ako, sobrang bilis nila,” she said. “Sobrang sarap na makapaglaro ka sa ganoong level, knowing Japan na mabibilis, sobrang competitive.”
“Grabe ‘yung lesson na as a volleyball player you keep the ball flying. Oo, sobra [malaking tulong] kasi knowing Japan ang sarap [silang kalaro] kaya nagpapasalamat ako binigyan ako ng opportunity na makasali dito, makapaglaro sa ganyan at least makakalearn ka,” she added.
