IMUS City — Generika-Ayala scored its first win of the conference, beating Smart, 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 15-11, in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix on Tuesday at Imus Sports Complex.
Imports Darlene Ramdin from Trinidad and Tobago and Symone Hayden of the United States finished with 25 and 21 points, respectively, for the LIfe Savers. Ria Meneses chipped in 16 markers as Angeli Araneta scored 11.
Generika-Ayala improved to 1-4, while Smart remained winless in five outings.
“Sobrang competitive ng mga teams, nagpe-prepare talaga, tapos ‘yung mga import dito talaga superb, masaya syempre nakakuha tayo ng unang panalo,” said Generika-Ayala coach Sherwin Meneses, who also bagged his first win in the PSL.
“Walang mahinang team dito, tatlo pa ang import, grabe maglaro,” he added.
Generika-Ayala was ahead, 8-7, before widening the gap, 11-8, after a Ramdin hit.
Smart kept within striking distance, 11-12, but the Life Savers scored three straight points capped by an attack error by the Giga Hitters.
Cuban import Gyselle de la Caridad registered a conference-high 35 points for Smart, while Serbian reinforcement Sanja Trivunovic added 22.
