IMPORTS Courtney Felinski and Selime Ilyasoglu led the way as Foton defeated United VC, 26-24, 25-20, 15-25, 25-21, to start its campaign in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix on Saturday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
American hitter Felinski delivered 23 points built on 19 attacks, while Turkish spiker Ilyasoglu had an all-around game of 19 markers and 14 digs for the Tornadoes.
“I’m very happy on how the girls played, also the imports were able to step up especially [they know] how to close a match,” said Foton coach Aaron Velez.
The Tornadoes trailed 4-10 in the fourth set before Felinski and Ilyasoglu took charge to tie the contest at 10.
“I’m surprised because in training we don’t normally talk, we just train hard, and today the imports were able to jell properly [with the team],” said Velez.
American import Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani finished with 23 points and 14 digs for United VC, while team captain Kalei Mau added 17.
